Department of Animal Production

The Department of Animal Production was established in 1993, staffed by a distinguished group of professors specialized in various fields of animal production. It was supported with scientific laboratories, lecture halls, and a specialized animal farm aimed at graduating students with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Resources.

The department launched its first postgraduate program (M.Sc.) in the academic year 1998–1999, followed by the opening of the doctoral program (Ph.D.) in 2002–2003, granting graduates the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Animal Resources. To keep pace with scientific advancements in the poultry sector, the department also introduced a Higher Diploma in Poultry Science in the academic year 2020–2021.

Throughout its academic journey, the department has succeeded in developing its laboratories into specialized facilities in the field of animal production, including laboratories for Nutrition, Physiology, Meat, and Fish.

The department has been a cornerstone of the scientific and applied activities of the College of Agriculture by organizing workshops, field practices, symposia, and scientific conferences, in addition to collaborating in the establishment of specialized associations aimed at enhancing the capacities of breeders and professionals working in both the public and private animal production sectors.

The department aspires to keep pace with leading Animal Production departments in reputable international universities by achieving accreditation and quality assurance from recognized institutions.

Degrees Awarded by the Department

The Department of Animal Production grants a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences / Animal Production for undergraduate studies.

It also offers Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Agricultural Sciences / Animal Production, in addition to a Higher Diploma in Agricultural Sciences / Animal Production / Poultry Management for postgraduate studies.
