Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering

The department was established in the academic year 2003–2004 with the aim of preparing and qualifying specialists in various fields of horticulture (vegetables, fruits, ornamentals, nurseries, and forest trees). Graduates are qualified to work in the Ministry of Agriculture, other governmental institutions, agricultural projects, and to provide universities with specialized staff in horticulture. The department also emphasizes the use of biotechnological techniques and the propagation of horticultural plants, such as tissue culture technology.

Among the department’s activities are conducting scientific research, implementing productive agricultural projects, and developing new cultivars of horticultural plants. The department is equipped with a shade house, two glasshouses, ten plastic greenhouses, and a 20-donum horticultural research station (including a vineyard, an orchard of deciduous fruits, a rootstock orchard, and a nursery).

Additionally, the department has specialized laboratories, including:

  • Ornamental and landscape laboratory

  • Horticultural plant breeding laboratory

  • Horticultural plant physiology laboratory

The department awards the following degrees:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Sciences / Horticulture and Landscape Engineering (Undergraduate)

  • Master’s degree in Agricultural Sciences / Horticulture and Landscape Engineering (Postgraduate)

  • Starting from the academic year 2017–2018, the department also offers Ph.D. and Higher Diploma programs in Horticulture and Landscape Engineering.
