Achieving self-sufficiency for individuals in Salahuddin Province in fruits and vegetables according to international standards, through the provision of qualified scientific expertise supported by modern research, and creating a qualitative shift in horticultural engineering and garden design.

We provide the community with scientific expertise and qualified professionals in the fields of vegetable and fruit production, as well as landscape and garden engineering, while establishing an advisory channel for farmers and agricultural project owners.

The Department of Horticulture and Landscape Engineering at the College of Agriculture aims to achieve an integrated set of objectives that serve the horticultural sector and enhance environmental beautification. The most important objectives include:

1. Qualification of Specialized Cadres
   Preparing agricultural engineers specialized in horticulture and landscape engineering who possess the knowledge and skills required for designing, establishing, managing, and maintaining gardens, green spaces, and the production of various horticultural crops.

2. Development of the Horticultural Sector
   Contributing to the development of horticultural production (vegetables, fruits, ornamentals, medicinal and aromatic plants) using modern technologies and scientific approaches.

3. Garden and Landscape Design
   Equipping students with the knowledge and skills necessary for designing and coordinating public and private gardens, parks, playgrounds, and other green spaces, with consideration of aesthetic, functional, and environmental aspects.

4. Management and Maintenance of Green Areas
   Training students on effective and sustainable methods for managing and maintaining gardens and landscapes, including irrigation, fertilization, pest and disease control, and pruning.

5. Production of Improved Seedlings and Rootstocks
   Conducting research to develop and produce high-quality grafted seedlings and rootstocks resistant to diseases and unfavorable environmental conditions.

6. Postharvest Management of Horticultural Crops
   Teaching students proper postharvest handling techniques, including packaging, storage, and marketing, in order to reduce losses and maintain quality.

7. Applied Scientific Research
   Conducting applied research in horticulture and landscape engineering to provide solutions to sector-related challenges and to propose recommendations for improved production, design, and management.

8. Community Service and Consultancy
   Providing consultancy services to farmers, government agencies, private institutions, and individuals in various fields of horticulture and garden design.

9. Raising Awareness on Green Spaces
   Promoting the importance of gardens and green spaces in improving the environment as well as enhancing mental and social well-being.

10. Application of Modern Technologies
    Training students on the use of advanced technologies in horticulture and landscape engineering, such as protected agriculture, drip irrigation, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in site design.

11. Preservation of Plant Diversity
    Studying native plants and incorporating them into garden and landscape designs to preserve natural heritage and promote biodiversity.

12. Collaboration with Relevant Institutions
    Building cooperative relationships with governmental and private institutions, NGOs, and research centers to exchange expertise and advance the horticulture and landscape engineering sector.
