Division of Postgraduate Studies

The Division of Postgraduate Studies is considered one of the most important divisions affiliated with the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs, as it provides the College with master’s, doctoral, and higher diploma students in order to build a new generation of faculty members for the College of Agriculture and other Colleges of Agriculture across Iraqi universities.

Admission Criteria
  • The criteria for ranking applicants for study leave shall be in accordance with the Study Leave Regulations No. 165 of 2011, based on GPA, age, years of service, published research, and performance evaluation. Priority shall also be given to individuals covered by the Law of the Martyrs Foundation, the Political Prisoners Law, and the Law on Persons with Special Needs. This applies to employees of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

  • The applicant for a Master’s degree must have a minimum GPA of 65%.

  • The applicant for a Master’s degree must have at least two years of service after obtaining the most recent academic degree, calculated up to 1/9/2018. This applies to employees of all ministries.

  • The applicant for a Doctoral degree must have a minimum GPA of 70%.

  • The age of the applicant for a Master’s degree (general admission channel) must not exceed 45 years, calculated precisely (day, month, year) up to the date of application for postgraduate studies in the respective academic year.

    • Applicants for the self-funded Master’s program are exempt from the GPA and age requirements.

  • The age of the applicant for a Doctoral degree (general admission channel) must not exceed 50 years, calculated precisely (day, month, year) up to the date of application for postgraduate studies in the respective academic year.

Eligible Degrees for Admission
  • Applicants for a Master’s program must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Engineering in one of the following specializations:

    • Animal Production

    • Food Science

    • Field Crops

    • Soil Science and Water Resources

    • Agricultural Economics and Extension

    • Plant Protection

    • Horticulture and Landscape Engineering

  • Applicants for a Doctoral program must hold a Master’s degree in Agricultural Engineering.

Admission Procedures

The admission procedures (applied in almost all Iraqi universities) are based on the following steps:

  1. The applicant must pass the Computer Proficiency Test and the English Language Proficiency Test.

  2. The applicant must successfully pass the Competitive Examination.

  3. The applicant shall undergo an interview by a specialized committee to assess the suitability of the candidate for postgraduate study.

  4. The issuance of the University Admission Order, followed by the issuance of the Administrative Admission Order.

  5. The issuance of the Administrative Order of Commencement (Registration/Enrollment).

Units Under Its Authority

Theses and Dissertations Unit

Within the Division of Postgraduate Studies, the Theses and Dissertations Unit is a highly important organizational entity. It is responsible for managing and organizing all procedures related to the theses and dissertations of students enrolled in postgraduate programs (Higher Diploma, Master’s, and Ph.D.).


Documents Unit

Within the Division of Postgraduate Studies, the Documents Unit plays a vital role in managing, organizing, and documenting all records and official papers related to postgraduate students and their programs. The main goal of this unit is to ensure that information is properly preserved, easily accessible, and that administrative procedures are facilitated efficiently.
