The Department of Plant Protection aspires to be the leading department among its counterparts in Iraqi universities.

The faculty members of the Department of Plant Protection at the College of Agriculture, University of Tikrit, strive to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of major pests through a combination of theoretical study, field experiments, and practical training. This integrated approach ensures a balance between pest management and the preservation of the ecosystem in a sustainable manner.

1. Provide distinguished academic education in the fields of plant diseases, insects, and their control methods.

2. Disseminate knowledge within the community through continuous collaboration with agricultural extension services and private agricultural companies to transfer knowledge and technologies to farmers.

3. Keep pace with scientific research developments by utilizing field and laboratory equipment, following up on the latest research findings, and implementing integrated pest management programs in an environmentally safe and sustainable manner.

4. Continuously develop curricula by revising the academic description of each course and adopting the standards set by the Ministry for evaluating faculty performance.

Graduates of the Department of Plant Protection are expected to:

1. Demonstrate a solid understanding of plant diseases, insect pests, and their control methods.

2. Apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills in diagnosing and managing agricultural pests.

3. Employ integrated pest management (IPM) approaches that ensure environmental safety and sustainability.

4. Utilize modern laboratory and field techniques for research and problem-solving in plant protection.

5. Communicate effectively with farmers, agricultural institutions, and the private sector to transfer knowledge and technology.

6. Engage in lifelong learning and professional development to keep pace with scientific and technological advancements.

Plant Protection is a broad field that integrates multiple sciences. The academic program focuses on the plant as a whole, including all related aspects such as soil, water, microorganisms, insects, plant diseases, and other pests within the agricultural ecosystem.

The program provides students with knowledge on how to diagnose plant infections both in the field and in the laboratory, in addition to studying all available methods of pest control. Emphasis is placed on selecting the most effective, least harmful, cost-efficient, and sustainable approaches.
