Department of Soil Science and Water Resources
The Department of Soil Science and Water Resources was established in the academic year 2004–2005 with the aim of providing society with specialized scientific qualifications in the field of soil and water sciences. The location of the College of Agriculture is characterized by gypsiferous soils, which makes it necessary to study their properties, management methods, and successful approaches to make them suitable for agriculture.
The department is engaged in various scientific activities, including research in soil chemistry, soil physics, soil fertility, soil microbiology, irrigation technologies, and fertilization practices. It also organizes seminars, workshops, and training courses.
The department is equipped with modern laboratories containing the instruments and equipment required to meet the needs of undergraduate and postgraduate students. In addition, the department manages a 10-donum desertification control station and cooperates with the Department of Field Crops in managing wheat and barley fields.
